MY STORY OF THE FLOWER HEALER
This was a project I was commissioned to write for Cico Books, oh what a wonderful world we live in, when most authors have to write their book and then virtually beg a publisher to take it on, I was invited to write what was in my head.
The journey of writing was littered with deadlines, mishaps, tears and enormous joy, much like life really. It taught me to work without compromising on the really important stuff and to listen and act, when others were insisting I agree to something. It taught me perseverance and tenacity and not to give in when negative things happen. I learned how to communicate by writing, by just being me. This book facilitated the birth of the South African Daisy Essence whose beautiful face is featured here. Cico were insistent they use it for the cover. I had to source the plant, make the essence and work with it before the deadline. True to form I battled with it all the way, but it came just when I needed it. My Pioneering Journey was just beginning. |
This essence epitomises the struggle we all have with being human and learning the art of intuition and gut feel. That knowing which only comes when you take into account every angle, every miniscule part of your learning and utilising every element of yourself, to be Pioneers of our own expeditions.
Writing this book and preparing the South African Daisy essence was a gift to me, to consolidate what I knew into one whole. And that is just what the essence does! By 2007 when it finally hit the bookshelves a lot of the information about the energy matrix was out of date, it had started to move. The essences I talked about, dealt with our worst fears, the stuff that had me hiding under the sheets when I was little and how to let those fears go. So in some respects this book is just like us, accepting of our human appearance and guides us how to be truly beautiful and peaceful on the inside. I look back at my life since 2007 and how The Flower Healer was a pivotal point in that development. |
I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW OTHERS RECEIVED IT BETTER THAN TO LET THEM TELL YOU
Having worked in the field of energy and vibrational medicine for close to three decades, I am still in awe of gems that come into my life and offer an alternative fresh look at something. This book is one such gem. It is succinct and very easy to follow, as well as providing sound knowledge around the subject matter to hand. It will be a very useful reference book for myself, however I can see that it would be a fantastic learning tool for others wanting to know more about the healing resources from nature, particularly the flower realm and some carefully selected crystals, all of which can be used and taken in Essence form. Someone presented me with Barbara Olive's beautiful book on Flower Essences as a christmas present. The book attracted the eye instantly, just like the flowers it describes, because it is so beautifully presented. The full-page colour images of exotic blooms are startling in their glory and the delightful accompanying illustrations of Tina Dalziel never fail to illuminate the text with their subtle magic.
The introductory guide to what flower essences are all about is one of the best I have read. Ms Olive is hugely blessed with an intuitive's sympathy for the therapeutic energies of plants, just as the contemporary pioneer of essence medicine, Dr Edward Bach, was. Like Bach too, the author is empathetically alive to her clients specific emotional and energetic needs.
Like many modern practitioners, Barbara Olive reaches out beyond the 38 remedies, the founder of the system employed to draw on a wide array of blooms to meet the challenges of her clients in the 21st Century.
While 'The Flower Healer' exudes a vibrant positivity on every page, it never loses its careful thread of ordered exposition. It is enthusiastic, but always eminently clear and readily accessible as a guide.
The main body of Ms Olive's book contains thorough descriptions of the healing plants which the author employs in her own expanded repetoire of remedies. While the energetic modality of each essence is amply indicated, the author never ignores the intimate connection between the extracted essence and it's botanical origin. The colour illustrations always suggest the elevator of spirit each essence effects. For me, this approach further suggests that Ms Olive really does appreciate the source in Nature to which we owe these miraculous healing agents. While bubbling with zest and zeal for this healing craft, the author, a trained nurse with considerable practical experience has her feet firmly on the ground.
The book concludes with copious lists of appropriate remedies to address specific conditions and dispositions, both physical and emotional. We sometimes forget that while Bach himself looked at emotional 'symptoms' to pin-point remedy selection, he did use essences to treat physical conditions..... he remained a physician to the end of his brief life.
In addition to 'Essences for Adults' there are further appendices on the use of flower remedies for children's conditions and their employment with Pet Ailments.
'The Flower Healer' is a much needed modern addition to the limited library available to practitioners and lay-users of flower essences. On every page one is aware that the Flower Healer is the direct product of the authors own experience, using remedies on herself and with innumerable clients. This is not a dry theoretical treatise, but an immediate and joyous celebration of a transforming healing modality and I cannot recommend it highly enough........
If the lady who posted this wonderful critique to me, reads this, would she please get in touch so I can thank her and post her name here.
